My name is Ira (Irina) Platonova.

For now I am an 11thgrader of the Lyceum but I live in the orphanage. When I was entering there I was scared about how new classmates and teachers would accept me. So, the 1stof September, 2008 was not the most pleasant day for me, but now everything is well. I have a lot of friends. I study well and I do my best. But now I am worried about my future life after finishing school.

And now, I am going to tell you how I happened to get to the orphanage.

I used to have a very good family, but now I have only a brother who is imprisoned at the moment. Before, I studied in a different school. Our father left us when I was 3 years old.  Actually, he was kicked out because he kept beating my mother during the 20 years of their relationship. Immediately after that, my grandmother died. She was a very good person. During that time we lived in a private house. Three years later my brother was imprisoned for the first time. After my grandmother’s death, my mother began drinking alcohol and sometimes I had to live with strange people. When my brother returned I recommenced my study a year late. We moved. Our grandfather died. We moved again and that time we found ourselves out of town. In winter of 2002 my mother died because of hypothermia. I was sent to Orphanage #5. I studied there for three years and then I moved to Orphanage #4.

In spite of all my misfortunes, I aspire to achieve success. After finishing school I would like to enter Maritime Academy but I am disturbed that one has to pass an English exam to get in there. I learn English but I believe my knowledge is not good enough for testing. Frankly speaking, I don’t even know what I would like to enter. In my childhood I wanted to be an archaeologist but now I’ve understood that this is not for me. In fact, I like traveling.

Now, we are preparing for the graduates’ party. This year it will be much earlier than usual. School exams were cancelled recently because of a flu quarantine. We have a lot of homework to do but I do my best to cope with it.

I’ve heard a lot about Clara Pascal, about her helping children and about her Scholarship Program for students. I’m glad that now it is my turn. I would like to learn more about her.

With love,

Ira Platonova.
