Shelters

The shelters are often the first stage for a child to enter the institutional system in Odessa. Children cannot enter an orphanage until their paperwork is in order, and they can spend up to a year at a shelter waiting for this to happen.  Once their paperwork is complete they are transferred to the appropriate orphanage—usually #9 for the younger children and #4 or #5 for the older children.

Children that have spent time living on the streets are usually sent to Shelter #2 while their paperwork is processed.

UAC provides the children at Shelter #2 with school supplies, extra food, holiday gifts and more.
